Guides have fun at girl-only festival

-

A group of Guides from Holyhead have recently returned from four days of high-adrenaline activities, expert football training and entertainment from top pop quartet Only the Young and Bars and Melody. They attended Wellies and Wristbands, a fantastic girl-only festival exclusively for Girlguiding members over the bank holiday weekend (August 28-31).

Twenty-two members of 2nd Holyhead Guide Unit travelled to Girlguiding’s Waddow Hall Training and Activity Centre in Lancashire to join more than 1,000 Girlguiding festivalgoers for the action-packed extravaganza.

This year’s festival included an opportunity for girls to develop their football skills with some of England’s top female players at special FA coaching sessions held over the weekend.

Thrill-seekers had their pick of the adventurous activities on offer at Waddow Hall.

In the evening they were entertained by X Factor band Only the Young on the main stage, as well as a host of local bands.

Among the activities the 2nd Holyhead Guides chose to try out were kayaking, crate stacking, zorbing, Jacobs ladder, hot tubs, henna tattoos and more.

Rosa McDermot, 12, said: “I’d never been to a festival before and I got the chance to try out some new activities. The gigs each night were great!”
