Aldi kicked in to touch over England shirts
ASUPERMARKET has come under fire for sending leaflets advertising only English rugby kits to hundreds of homes across North Wales.
Aldi said a “delivery error” was to blame for the promotional material being sent to homes in Wales.
The leaflets do not advertise any Welsh rugby strips and the budget supermarket chain has faced criticism for the oversight - especially in the run-up to the Rugby World Cup.
The Wales rugby team are currently just one place behind England in the world rankings and will face off against the men in white in a tough group alongside Australia, Fiji and Uruguay.
Rugby fan Owen Davies, 34, said the error was “insulting”.
He said: “They might say it’s an error but it’s obviously been sent to hundreds of homes.
“There may well be England rugby fans living in North Wales, but they should not be advertising only English strips.”
He added: “With such a big game and such a big rivalry, you would have thought they’d pay closer attention. The WalesEngland game is going to be one of the biggest in years.”
An Aldi spokesperson said: “As part of a Specialbuys promotion, a range of Wales rugby items have been available to buy in our Welsh stores since Sunday, September 13.
“Because of a delivery error, however, Specialbuys promotional materials mistakenly contained England rugby products instead of Wales ones.
“These materials are now being replaced and the correct ones will be available in all our Welsh stores from Tuesday, September 15.
“We apologise to our Welsh customers for the error.”
