HIGH STREET: This Thursday shoppers in Llangefni will be entertaine­d by stilt walkers and magical illusions as they shop around the town. There will also be an opportunit­y to sign up for the Llangefni Life discount card scheme that gives them a wide range of offers each month from participat­ing stores in the town. In addition there will be the market with its various stalls.The event has been organised by the Llangefni Town Partnershi­p in order to encourage people to use their local high street. LUNCH CLUB: The Royal Voluntary Service is planning to set up a lunch club at the Liverpool Arms, on alternate Mondays. MENAI BRIDGE AND DISTRICT CIVIC SOCIETY: Autumn lectures start on Friday, Sept 25, at 7.30pm in the Community Centre, Water Street, Menai Bridge. Peter Simpson’s subject is ‘The Life and Times of the 7th Marquess of Anglesey’. The Marquess and Lady Anglesey supported the work of the Civic Society over many years and their presence at meetings is sadly missed. All welcome, non members are charged £2, membership costs £5. The Garden Party held at Plas Cadnant on Sept 19, was a great success. Rhun ap Iorweth opened the event in glorious sunshine. A series of photograph­s of people and past times in the town and the presence of Medwyn and Gwenda Williams (Chelsea Gold Winners) with a superb basket of vegetables, provided great interest. Gardening problems were taken by Medwyn, Philip Brown, Bryony and Jo. Davidson. Menai Bridge Senior Band played, Floribunda­nce worked her magic on flower arranging and Val Hopkins did portrait sketches. Gardeners’ Punch was served and the tea room was well patronised. The Society give thanks to host, Anthony Tavernor and his magnificen­t hidden garden.
