VW Beetles the major highlight
THE British Racing and Sports Car Club visits Anglesey Circuit again this Saturday and Sunday for an action-packed weekend with single seaters, sportscars, touring cars and topped off with an endurance race into the night.
The two days will see the conclusion to the Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 National Championship.
In the Post ’89 class Ireland’s Jonny McMullan will go head-to-head with Canada’s Patrick Dussault for the title, while the Pre ‘90s pits Matthew Cowley against Jamie Jardine for top honours.
Formula Ford is still considered by many as a key stepping stone in the world of motorsport, helping drivers gain a crucial understanding in just how to handle a racing car on mechanical grip alone.
There’s more representation for the Blue Oval as the XR Challenge also rolls into town.
Michael Heath was unstoppable last time out at Silverstone, claiming a clean sweep of that weekend’s triple header of races.
Expect him to be the favourite with competition from Alistair May, Robert Clapton and Lee Shropshire in Class A, while Michael Taylor looks set to claim Class B against Ryan and Lee Bowron.
The weekend is also populated by racing from the British Automobile Racing Club’s CNC Heads Sports and Saloon Championship.
With an overall championship for grabs as well as individual class titles, the cars to keep an eye on will be Steven Hibbert’s Class E Lotus Sport Elise, Joe Spencer’s Class C “Stuart Taylor Locosaki” and Stuart Pearson in his Class E Ginetta G20.
One thing certain is the entry will be diverse and varied, with a fantastic range of makes, models and specifications.
Headlining the weekend will be the Fun Cup Championship with two, three-hour races for their VW Beetle silhouette race cars – one in mid-afternoon during daylight hours and the second running at night to give the drivers a contrast in driving conditions.
Team Racelogic are the team to beat with the points lead so far, whilst second place is being hotly contested by Eco Racing, Holden Hawthorns Racing and Scuderia XCat, all separated by just seven points. It is a series which certainly lives up to its name and often sees large grids and finishes going right down to the wire, making it a firm fan favourite.
Tickets are just £10 each day or £15 for a weekend ticket.
