Stunning comeback

-

TEN-MAN Pentraeth ensured their name is in the hat for the FAW Trophy third round after an incredible 3-2 comeback victory over league rivals Mochdre Sports.

Jamie Davies’s side were on top before the visitors stunned their hosts by taking a ninth-minute lead through Scott Roberts.

The home side were finding it tough with some of their challenges being adjudged as fouls by the man in the middle and the frustration was clear to see as Deci O’Connor went through his man to pick up the first yellow card.

The midfielder could have seen red for a second tackle a few minutes later, but he eventually received his marching orders in the 36th minute for what was presumably more a process of ‘totting up’ rather than the foul itself.

O’Connor’s two yellows came either side of a wonderful Mochdre goal, Roberts netting with a tremendous free kick to make it 2-0 at half time.

Pentraeth had clearly been given a game plan at the break, as they changed the shape of their midfield and attack - and it worked tremendously.

With 61 minutes on the clock, the Sandmen had pulled one back when Corrig McGonigle converted a penalty awarded for a foul on himself.

In the 74th minute Pentraeth were level when a three-pronged attack from Alex Boss, Connor Jones and McGonigle saw the keeper make a tremendous double save, only for Jones to slot home the rebound.

With eight minutes of normal time left, Boss played through McGonigle, who slotted past the keeper to send the home support wild.
