Hotspur hit top form to go up to third

-

HOLYHEAD Hotspur will no doubt be buoyed by rising up to third in the Huws Gray Alliance last weekend when they entertain Prestatyn Town at the New Stadium this Saturday (2.30pm).

Campbell Harrison’s side hit top form in their latest outing when they finished up emphatic 4-0 winners at Rhayader Town.

The near four-hour trip to Powys proved well worth it after a brace apiece from Damian Ketley and Jamie Roberts secured the points in a game which saw both hosts striker Asa Hamilton and Hotspur central defender and captain Rhys Roberts draw a red card.

Roberts will feel his punishment was harsh in the circumstances, the incident occurring on the hour with Hotspur holding a one-goal lead.

However, the reduction in manpower for both teams proved far more advantageous to Campbell Harrison’s men, with Holyhead adding another three goals in the last 30 minutes.

Rhayader were more prominent in the opening exchanges before a free kick on the edge of the box by Holyhead’s Kenleigh Owen forced a good save from Luke Evans.

On 18 minutes Hotspur custodian Carl Jones saved well from Gethin Jones.

A minute later the keeper was out quickly to thwart Hamilton, but it was Hotspur who eventually took the lead on 24 minutes when Jamie Roberts’s superb shot from 20 yards flew into the top cormer.

Town came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second period with Carl Jones under pressure, the keeper doing really well to push away a goalbound effort from Hamilton and then producing even better block at his near post.

Then came the sending-off incident after the referee consulted his assistant following a clash between Hamilton and Roberts.

It became 2-0 on 67 minutes when Dean Garmey crossed for Ketley to score.

After 73 minutes when Ketley took the ball down the left touchline, cut inside and netted brilliantly from a very acute angle.

Brendun Hogan then did really well on the right to set up Jamie Roberts for Hotspur’s fourth.
