HELP SAVE CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES
VOLUNTEERS ‘DESPERATELY NEEDED’ CRUNCH MEETING THIS THURSDAY
AMEETING will take place tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the future of Bangor’s carnival and festive celebration events.
Chair of the People of Bangor Community Group, Bryan Collis, said that volunteers are “desperately needed” to help ensure that the popular festive celebration, pencilled in for December 5, can go ahead as planned.
He said: “We desperately need some volunteers to come forward to do some of the essential organising roles between now and December or we will need to cancel the event.
“The event is a great time for the city, seeing local choirs singing and Santa in his grotto, different stalls and community groups selling things and usually finishing with a burst of fire- works.
“A number of key volunteers are unable to do what they usually do this year, so we need people to come forward and offer to help out.”
The meeting will be held tomorrow (Thursday) September 24 in Lecture room 1 at Bangor University’s Main Arts Theatre starting at 7pm.
Among the volunteers required are those willing to coordinate the decoration of the grotto, organise street collections in different areas of Bangor, contact stalls and register those who will attend.
Volunteers are also required for grotto decorating, running the grotto and sorting out a performance schedule.
Other duties include collecting items for a tombola, helping to decorate the High Street, stewarding on the day and helping to pack up the grotto between Christmas and New Year.
