46-yr-old choir in call for new voices

CôR y Traeth, the Anglesey-based male voice choir, are inviting new members to join them.

The choir was formed 46 years ago in 1969 to compete in local Eisteddfod competitio­ns. There were 40 members to begin with and the numbers grew to 100 over the years.

On 15 occasions the choir won first prize in the Anglesey Eisteddfod and also first prize in the National Eisteddfod in 1983,1989,1997 and 2007.

Secretary Dafydd Jones said the membership has decreased recently and an invitation to new members to join the choir has been issued.

“We need tenors, baritones and basses, especially basses,” he said.

The choir have three important target occasions, said Mr Jones.

“We want to take part in the 25 year celebratio­n of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir at the Royal Albert Hall on October 2016.

“Then we want to challenge for the Choir competitio­n at the National Eisteddfod on Anglesey in 2017 and our 50th Anniversar­y in 2019,” he said.

The choir rehearse every Monday evening at Ysgol Corn Hir, Llangefni at 7.30pm.
