STILL NOT HOME AND DRY

More help needed after festive celebrations meeting

-

ORGANISERS of a Christmas extravaganza have admitted they are “still not home and dry” after a public meeting was held in the city last week.

The people of Bangor Community Group had issued an SOS, seeking volunteers to come forward to help with the Festive Celebrations this year, amid fears it would have to be cancelled due to a lack of volunteers.

This was due to a number of key volunteers being unable to take up their roles this year’s event, pencilled in for December 5.

Speaking following the meeting the group’s Chair, Bryan Collis, confirmed that eight people turned up to the meeting although apologies were sent in by numerous others.

The Festive Celebrations, which were held for the first time in 2010, has been a big success with visitors flocking to the city for the now annual event.

Last year also saw a Santa Dash take place to support the #Teamirfon campaign, with money raised going to the Alaw ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Mr Collis said: “We’re looking to hold another meeting on October 8 to discuss the issue again, where hopefully we’ll be in a healthier position.

“Some of the roles have now thankfully been filled, although its fair to say we’re not home and dry yet.

“We still need some people to organise the grotto and coordinate volunteers, as well as a sponsor.

“Unfortunately, without a grotto organiser we’ll be unable to have a grotto at all.

“Its hoped that by the next meeting, a number of key roles will have been filled.”
