Turning on the tile style

-

IN our last Craft Creations ( January 20) we took a look at dichroic glass with Caron King from Holyhead. This week, we are back with Caron, but this time she is sharing her creative passion for all things mosaic.

Caron is a professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaics, and she explains why she loves to teach and share the fun of making mosaic pieces with others.

She says: “Having taught a wide spectrum of glass-based workshops over the years, my favourites and the source of my creational inspiration have always been mosaic-based.

“This ancient glass technique is quickly picked up, with application and a little enthusiasm, by all students of the craft.

“It allows everyone to discover their individual creativity whilst learning a new skill that they can continue to develop long after they have completed a workshop.”

As well as being busy with community projects, attending craft fairs, and visiting schools and groups, such as the WI, Caron also has a cosy studio overlooking the beautiful welsh countryside (situated on the A5 in Brygwran), where she runs workshops from.

She enjoys demonstrating and helping others to learn a variety of new techniques; from design to colour concepts, cutting glass, grouting and finishing.

She says: “Mosaic workshops are something that can bring communities together whilst providing some wellneeded respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

Mayfly Mosaics Studio offers a full selection of tesserae, which simply means all the materials you would need to create your project.

If you like the idea of having a go at making something yourself, take a look at Caron’s website at mayflymosaics.com for more details.
