MP visits nominees for business gong
AHEAD of the forthcoming European Business Awards, Albert Owen MP last week visited an Anglesey company shortlisted for a prestigious award.
Holyhead based Môn Maintenance Services has been named as a ‘National Champion’ for the UK after reaching the shortlist for European Business of the Year with a turnover of less than £25 million.
Currently employing 17 members of staff as well as working in partnership with the local college on an apprenticeship scheme, the firm specialises in electrical/mechanical engineering and maintenance.
On Friday, Albert Owen welcomed to the opportunity to be given a site tour by the company’s Managing Director, Andrew Samuel.
The company, which was established by four unemployed workers from the defunct Anglesey Aluminium Ltd using their redundancy packages, increased its turnover by 243 per cent between 2012 and 2014.
The voting process is open to the general public and can be done by vising www. businessawardseurope. com by this Friday, February 26. The winner is announced in early March.
Mr Owen said: “I want to congratulate Andrew and his team on not only for being shortlisted for the Business of the Year Award but for also being named UK Champions.
“These awards celebrate excellence in the field of business which says great deal about this company. They established themselves during the financial crisis and came through those troubles.
“In a post-recession UK, the Island needs apprenticeship projects as well as skills based work and that’s what Mon Maintenance Services offer.
“I hope the people of Anglesey and the rest of the UK to join with me in voting for Môn Maintenance Services.”
