Thomas treble helps Trearddur climb to fourth

-

ASA THOMAS was a hat-trick hero as Trearddur Bay United edged up to fourth in Welsh Alliance Division One with a 5-1 thrashing of Pwllheli last Saturday.

A high-tempo, quality match on Bangor City’s 3G surface saw Bay’s more clinical finishing prove the chief difference on the night.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute when Craig Moore was tripped in the box and Thomas put away the resulting penalty.

Two minutes later Jordie Murphy made a powerful run from midfield and laid off to Thomas, whose shot squeezed into the top right-hand corner.

Early in the second half Bryn Jones made it 3-0 with a 20-yard cracker.

Bay keeper Bryan Roberts produced a superb save to deny Adam Hall as Pwllheli continued to battle.

However, on the hour the points were secured when Dale Murphy’s shot was fumbled by the keeper and squirmed over the line.

In the 64th minute Pwllheli were awarded a controversial penalty when a seemingly good tackle in the area by Luke Roberts was punished with a spot-kick.

Rhodri Scott converted to reduce the deficit.

The visitors kept producing some great football and a hard low cross evaded everyone – a let-off for Bay.

Pwllheli looked like they had pulled another back on 86 minutes but Rich Williams made a goal-line clearance.

Trearddur came on strongly in the closing stages and when Shaun Jenkins fed a precision through-ball, Thomas finished calmly into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick and reach 28 goals for the season.
