Bangor-born Tipton returns to home city

-

BANGOR City’s pre-season continues with a home test against Warrenpoint Town of the Northern Ireland Football League Championship this Saturday (5pm kickoff ).

The Irish club, relegated from the NIFL Premiership last season, have a local connection as Matthew Tipton, born in Bangor, Gwynedd, is the first-team coach.

Former Wales Under-21 international Tipton played in the Football League for Oldham Athletic, Macclesfield Town, Mansfield Town and Bury.

In recent years, the 36-year-old has represented Irish clubs Dundalk, Portadown, Linfield and Ballymena United before switching to Warrenpoint.

City, who were due to take on Colwyn Bay in a friendly switched to Llanelian Road last night (Tuesday), announced an addition to their defence last week.

Young central defender Jacques Kpohomouh is the latest signing by Citizens boss Neville Powell.

He joins Tom Field, Ryan Wade, Lee Owens, Danny Gosset and Gary Roberts in the Welsh Premier League club’s group of summer recruits.

The powerful and athletic Kpohomouh impressed with North West Counties First Division side Irlam FC last season as they secured promotion to the Premier Division as runners-up.

He was also named Division One Player of the Season.

The youngster made his Bangor bow in the recent 1-1 draw against Vanarama National League Wrexham, and looked calm and assured in his defending. Bangor City squad update 2016/17
