BANGOR City hero Sion Edwards has always thrilled crowds so it was fitting his testimonial match last Saturday produced a barnstorming 6-6 draw.

Edwards, who signed for the Citizens in 2006 and has won a Welsh Premier title and three Welsh Cups with the club, was the centre of attention as the current Bangor side took on the reunited championshipwinning squad of 2010/11.

Alex Boss opened the scoring for a youthful 2016/17 City outfit before the inimitable Les Davies tapped in from Jamie Reed’s lay-off to equalise.

Danny Gosset latched on to Edwards’ though-ball before putting the present team 2-1 up but a simple finish for Chris Jones made it all-square at half time.

Edwards got in on the act with a cracker early in the second period, then Sion Bradley put the current Citizens 4-2 ahead.

Edwards made it 5-2 from the spot before Shaun Cavanagh added another.

It looked all over as a contest, but after Edwards left the park to a standing ovation, the ‘golden oldies’ made a superb comeback.

Former skipper James Brewerton reduced the deficit prior to Alan Bull making it 6-4.

Reed and Chris Roberts added further goals to ensure honours ended even.
