Nobody’s place is safe says Legg

- by Dave Jones

BANGOR City manager Andy Legg insists his squad building is far from finished ahead of this Sunday’s home clash with gap Connah’s Quay (3pm).

Legg has brought in a number of players since taking over as Citizens boss a fortnight ago but remains on the lookout for fresh talent.

Bangor’s first game under the former Wales international last weekend brought a 2-1 home win over Cefn Druids, a result which gave the Nantporth club early joint-leadership of the Welsh Premier League.

But City’s task is likely to be much harder on the Sabbath against a bigspending Nomads outfit which impressed in their debut campaign in Europe last month.

Legg said: “I’m still looking to improve the squad and competition for places, nobody should be thinking their place is safe at this club; it’s a big club, it needs to progress, it needs to be up there challenging.

“We are playing catch-up and I’m being realistic about things, I don’t expect us to be up there challenging in the top four, top five, we may sneak in the top six, who knows with a bit of hard work, but you’ve got to be realistic in this world.

“I said this year is going to be a tough ask, but possibly next year I want to be challenging for the title and not being happy with a top six place.”

Druids proved stubborn firstnight opponents for the all-Blues and it was the Ancients who had the best chances of the first half, Aaron Bowen heading over from a corner before the ex-Rhyl striker forced a magnificent point-blank save from Connor Roberts.

It did not quite click for new-look Bangor in the opening 45, but within two minutes of the restart they were two-up.

Ex-Wales international Daniel Nardiello slotted home the first before recent capture from Swansea City, Henry Jones, robbed keeper Michael Jones and found the empty net.

Substitute Sion Edwards and Nardiello both worked Jones before Cefn pulled one back in added time with a lovely strike from Stuart Cook.

Bangor City: Connor Roberts, Laurence Wilson (Sion Edwards 60) Jacques Kpohomouh, Leon Clowes, Gary Roberts, Ashley Young, Damien Allen, Jamie Reed (Alex Boss 69), Danny Gosset, Daniel Nardiello, Henry Jones (Oscar Durnin 82).
