No joy for Glan in opener -

-

GLANTRAETH travel to champions Trearddur Bay United tonight (Wednesday) keen to atone for their first-day 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Penrhyndeudraeth last Saturday.

The visitors began the stronger, a long cross from full back Alun Hughes bouncing off the top of the bar after just 90 seconds, then Meilir Williams scooped one over from close in.

After those early scares it was then Glantraeth, with many new faces in the squad, who began to carve out the better chances with Mike Lundstram twice in a minute inches away from converting great crosses by Jamie Roberts and Darren Gowans.

Penrhyn took the lead on 36 minutes as a cross from the right was saved by keeper Con- nor Hughes only for the ball to cannon off Meilir Williams into the net.

Dylan Williams volleyed wide for Glan but it was the visitors that went in ahead at the break.

Glantraeth had a great chance to level five minutes into the second half as a Jamie Roberts’ shot was only half saved by keeper Tyler French but Lundstram fired over from almost point blank range.

However, the home side were level two minutes later as Jamie Roberts created space and let fly with a powerful shot for his first goal for the club.

Six minutes later it was Rob- erts again on target to put the Anglesey side ahead as his header from a Lundstram cross was deflected past the keeper.

Home keeper Connor Hughes made a fine fingertip save from Alun Hughes, but If Glan’s second goal had an element of good fortune it was nothing compared to Penrhyn’s leveller on the hour as Meilir Williams hit a shot that was well off target only for the ball to strike Marvin Pritchard and completely change direction leaving the custodian with no chance of saving.

The game was now delicately poised and some brilliant play by Jamie Roberts on 68 minutes ended with a powerful shot that brought a flying save from French.

Pritchard missed a giltedged chance before Jack Davis bagged a late winner for Penrhyn.
