DOG GETS STUCK AT SEA AFTER MISTAKING LOBSTER POT BUOY FOR A BALL

Bangor Mail - - NEWS -

A LIFEBOAT crew came to the rescue of this Labrador who mistook a lobster pot’s buoy for a ball and got stranded at sea.

With four-year-old Ollie’s handler considering going into the water to rescue him after he got his harness and collar stuck on the buoy, a lifeboat was called.

They were on the scene at Rocky Coast, Holyhead, in minutes and found Ollie, who had been stuck for 20 minutes, struggling to keep his head above water.

As the lifeboat approached he turned his head to face the vessel, which freed him from the buoy. Despite being tired, he was able to swim back to shore.

RNLI crew member Beth Wilkinson said: “The person walking Ollie did exactly the right thing not to put themselves at risk by trying to rescue him. We would encourage pet owners not to enter the water but to call 999.”

Ollie’s owner Gwen Scott, who was not there during the incident at 8.30pm on Monday, said: “I can’t thank the RNLI enough.”
