Bulls edge a seven-goal thriller against battling visitors
BRYNGWRAN Bulls edged a 4-3 thriller against Mynydd Llandegai Reserves in the Kon-X Anglesey Football League.
The visitors took a 10th-minute lead through Alwyn Roberts, but James Ryan soon equalised with a shot from the edge of the box.
Bulls charged ahead when Dylan Jones, 20 yards out, chested down and volleyed powerfully into the net.
Undaunted, back came Mynydd and Lewis Hall struck to make it 2-2.
Despite the terrible conditions both sides were playing good football and the hosts took a stranglehold on the game when they went 4-2 ahead.
Dale Jones netted the third and Ryan, with close control, made space for himself to slot home.
However, Mynydd refused to give in and after David Hayes pulled one back from the penalty spot, Bryngwran were forced to hold on.
Llangoed top the table on goal difference after a 3-1 victory at Valley.
After a goalless first half, during which both teams struggled to cope with the blustery and showery conditions, the quality of play improved after the break.
The visitors opened the scoring when Rhys Jones reacted quickest to sidefoot home from a goalmouth scramble.
Within five minutes Valley were level when they awarded a free-kick and Mark Hamblin’s shot bounced off the ball to Danny Roberts, who wasted no time in drilling the ball home.
Llangoed edged back in front with a goal of quality.
Mathew Owen hit a power strike from 25 yards which looked to be going over until it dipped, hit the underside of the bar and bounced down into the net.
Craig Jones sealed the points with a third for the travellers.
Holyhead Town defeated Bryngwran Bulls 3-2 last Thursday.
In the 25th minute Tom Hadley was fouled in the box and Barry Haigh put Town one up from the penalty spot.
Ten minutes later Haigh was denied by a good save, but Hadley tapped in the rebound.
Bulls hit back with a fine individual effort from Jon Jones, but on 66 minutes it was 3-1 when Leeroy Parry’s inviting ball released Haigh to fire past the keeper.
Bryngwran hit back through Ryan but Holyhead took the points. Results (August 16 and 17):
Llangoed and District 4 (Mitchell Jones, Mathew Owen, Caerwyn Williams, Mathew Roberts) Mynydd Llandegai Res 1 (Richard Hayes); Valley 3 (Mark Hamblin, Justin Williams, Tommy Jenkins) Bodorgan Juniors 0; Pentraeth Res 3 (Chris Davies, Iolo Owen, Dylan Jones) Bethesda Res 2 (Adrian Roberts 2 – one penalty).
