Another hard test for Blues

-

BANGOR City will look to build on last Saturday’s superb 2-0 victory over Bala Town when they host Newtown at Nantporth tonight (Wednesday, 7.45pm).

For Andy Legg’s men, who lie third in the Welsh Premier with two wins and a defeat, it will be a fourth successive home fixture.

There are injury concerns over Damien Allen and Jamie Reed, Christian Langos remains suspended and defender Anthony Miley is unavailable.

Despite his team upsetting the odds by beating fancied Bala, Legg insists no-one is getting ideas above their station.

“We’re not going to get carried away because we’ve beaten Bala at home,” said the Bangor boss. “We lost last week, we know the reality of football and there’s a lot of work to be done here. We’ll be inconsistent until we get to know each other better.”

n the Bala result, Legg added: “I was delighted with the attitude in the second half, and we kept a clean sheet which is a bonus.

“We worked hard in training during the week and the boys took it on board and were outstanding.”

Legg expects a big test against Newtown.

“Newtown are one of those teams who have gone under the radar a bit – they are much better than people give them credit for.

“They only just lost at Connah’s Quay and their manager (Chris Hughes) has done a terrific job.

“But if we apply ourselves in the same manner we did against Bala we can hopefully get a similar result.”

City were on fire from the start, against Bala, man of the match Gary Roberts forcing keeper Alex Lynch into a superb seventh-minute save from a 25-yard rocket.

The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Brayden Shaw made a brilliant run before laying the ball off to Allen, who drilled home from 20 yards.

Bala should have equalised when Nathan Burke somehow skewed wide with the goal at his mercy.

In the 21st minute Reed headed on a Connor Roberts goal-kick and Daniel Nardiello read the bouncing ball better than defender Stuart J Jones before firing in number two.

Bangor should have added a third on the hour when Nardiello put Shaw through one-on-one, but Lynch blocked well with his legs.

Thereafter, City held out for a comfortable win.
