YOUNG ALFIE STARS IN EXOTIC OPERA
Talented 7-yr-old lands a role in Madam Butterfly
A SEVEN-year-old boy from Deganwy has landed a role in a premiere of the opera Madam Butterfly.
The highly acclaimed Russian State Opera are returning to stage one of the most colourful and exotic stories in the opera canon.
This production of the classic tragedy by Giacomo Puccini will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Playing the son of Madam Butterfly, Alfie James Walker, of Llandudno Youth Music Theatre, will perform alongside world-class opera stars who will be accompanied by a large live orchestra with over 30 musicians.
An Opera spokeswoman said: “From a young age, Alfie has enjoyed watching musicals and has gained in confidence since going to Stagenotes in 2015.
“Alfie is thrilled to be a part of an internationally acclaimed opera production. It’s the experience he will remember for a long time.”
Alfie is very energetic and loves playing sport. He particularly likes running and playing football.
Set in Japan at the turn of the 19th century, Madam Butterfly tells the story of a doomed love affair between an American naval officer and his young Japanese bride, whose self-sacrifice and defiance of her family lead to heartbreak and tragedy.
The spokeswoman added: “This touching story of innocent love crushed amidst two utterly different cultures resonates as strongly as ever in today’s world.
“If you’ve never tried opera before, you will love this full orchestra experience with brand new settings and fantastic costumes, exquisite singing and those wonderful tunes that the audience will still be humming to themselves on their way home.
“It all makes this a must see opera production for everyone.”
The producers, Amande Concerts, have plenty of experience working with the Russian State Ballet and Opera House on shows for British and European regional audiences.
