Boxer Evans is back in action on Wigan bill

-

MORE than nine months since he was last in the ring Anglesey champion boxer Mark Evans is back in action this Saturday.

The 35-year-old will take on Luke Fash of Hull at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan.

Evans, from Holyhead, is the reigning Welsh Area super-featherweight champion, a title he won back in June 2013 but is yet to defend.

The islander has won 11 of his 16 professional contests with three losses and two draws.

After turning pro in 2011 he went 10 bouts unbeaten, winning the Welsh crown in his ninth outing on points against Chuck Jones in Blackpool.

In his 11th test Evans was stopped in two rounds by Londoner Mitchell Smith, and the Anglesey man was also beaten in his next two fights, but he is now undefeated in three, his last match-up coming against Lithuanian Simas Volosinas at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, in November 2015, winning on a eight-round decision.

This weekend’s opponent Fash, 26, has won just two of his 11 contests but has been stopped only once, on his pro debut last year.

Evans splits training between the Tonks Gym in Liverpool and Holyhead.

“I’ve been training really well for the past eight weeks,” he said. “I’m feeling really strong and fit.

“I’ve also been training with my sponsor down at Hardcore Gym in Gaerwen, doing a lot of strength and conditioning there which has made a massive improvement with my strength.”

Evans thanked sponsors Valley Butchers, The Lobster Pot, Hardcore Gym, Nashkas Ealand’s barber shop and R H Drainage.
