NORTH Wales is among the top 10 worst places in Britain for drink and drug driving according to a new survey.
Price comparison website Money Supermarket studied 9.8m car insurances quotes and the LL postcode ranks among the worst.
Crewe in Cheshire was crowned Britain’s drink and drug driving capital for the second year running in the top 10 looking at the conviction rate for offenders.
Figures are calculated by most convictions per 1,000 drivers.
Wales dominates the top 10 with Llandrindod Wells in second place, Newport at fourth, Swansea at fifth and Cardiff sixth.
The LL postcode for North Wales, although parts of Deeside have CH, was 10th on the list.
North Wales Police has launched a crackdown on drink and drug driving over the Christmas period .
During last year’s Christmas campaign North Wales Police tested 8,894 drivers, with 82 being positive, refused or failed.
The Money Supermarket survey showed an average rate of 1.31 convictions per 1,000 male motorists, against just 0.73 per 1,000 for women.
Kevin Pratt, consumer affairs expert at the company, said: “Most people rightly view drink and drug-driving as totally unacceptable but our analysis shows a small minority are still getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
“This could be because they forget alcohol can stay in the system for a long time after the party is over, leading to their being convicted the following morning when they think they are sober”
