PEOPLE have been left living in fear after their community was targeted by “despicable” burglars.

Around 10 households and cars on the same estate were broken into in a single night, leaving residents shocked.

The owner of one of the homes raided, who didn’t wish to be named, said: “It’s been a big shock for everyone in the area. They broke into homes, garages and cars.

“The worst thing really is that we have no idea who’s responsible, if they’re from around here or from away.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty.”

After Saturday’s burglaries on the Glorian Estate in Amlwch Port, Anglesey, police have been carrying out door to door enquiries urging residents to keep items as secure as possible.

County councillor Richard Owain Jones, who lives in nearby Amlwch, said: “It’s a devastating thing to happen at any time, but just before Christmas makes it even worse,” he said.

“My heart goes out to everyone who was targeted, I hope they manage to replace what was lost and it hasn’t ruined Christmas too much.

“This is a very close knit community and everyone knows each other, making it an even bigger blow in many ways.

“I would urge everyone to take every precaution they can and make things as difficult as possible for thieves by locking everything.

“All we can hope now is that the police find those responsible.”

Investigating officer DC Chris Renshaw, of Llangefni CID, said: “Between Saturday night, December 10 and Sunday December 11 thieves broke into a number of houses, garages and vehicles on the Glorian Estate and stole several items.

“I am therefore very keen to hear from anyone who was in the village and who may have seen any suspicious activity or who may know who was responsible for the breakins. This was a despicable series of crimes on families as Christmas approaches.”

He added: “If anyone has any information about these burglaries I’d like to hear from them. It is also worth reminding all householders to be vigilant at all times and always ensure your property is locked and secured and if they see any suspicious behaviour to let us know immediately.”

Police enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who has any information should contact officers at Llangefni CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
