Champions top heading into ‘17

CHAMPIONS Menai Bridge will enter 2017 with a perfect record following an emphatic 47-19 win over Subway Warriors in Division One of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Winter Netball League last Wednesday (December 14).

Bridge made it six straight victories in some style to stay top of the table by a two-point margin over Arfon Ladies.

The Anglesey side were in ruthless scoring form, netting 12, 11, 13 and 11 goals over the four quarters.

Menai Bridge - Katie Skeoch; Subway Warriors - Tasha Jones.

Arfon Ladies were always in control as they saw off Holyhead 32-19.

Arfon - Rachel Southall; Holyhead - Abby Owen.

In the all-Penygroes derby, Primos came on strong in the second half to defeat Piws 23-13.

After the opening Primos led just 5-4 and were 10-8 to the good at midway.

However, Primos won the next two 6-2 and 7-3 to end up convincing winners.

Moniars claimed their first victory of the season and it was a clear one as they overcame bottom side Menai Thunder 37-14.

The winning side saved the best till last as they amassed 14 goals in the final quarter.

Tim o Walis maintained their 100 per cent record in Division Two with a 28-17 success over Red Sox.

Walis built up a big 16-4 lead by the midway stage, but the Bangor team had the better of the second half, winning the third 6-5 and drawing the last 7-7.

Walis - Eleri Elen; Red Sox - Claudette Fleming.

Second-place Llangefni dished out a severe 41-6 hammering to basement side Mon.

In quarter three, Cefni piled up 15 goals without conceding.

Llangefni - Cadi Hughes; Mon - Cara Mills.

Arfon Celts are a clear third after outscoring Yr Amigos 31-14.

Leading 13-7 at halfway, Celts dominated the third and fourth sessions, netting nine goals in each.

Celts - Cathy Owen; Amigos - Elan Rowlands.

Valley Vixens recorded an impressive 30-10 result against next-bottom team Llanrug.

The Anglesey team establishe­d a massive 15-2 lead by half time and never looked back.

Valley - Laura Cove; Llanrug - Mair Loxton.

Matches will recommence in 2017.

The North West Wales senior netball squad have trials coming up on Tuesday, January 10, at the Dome in the Canolfan Brailsford, Bangor, between 8pm and 10pm.

It is open to all adults currently affiliated to Welsh Netball and the aim is to put together two strong squads for the Inter Area tournament at Deeside Leisure Centre on April 1.
