DON’T BE ALONE
Cafe offers up festive lunch for those who may feel lonely
VOLUNTEERS on Anglesey will be giving up their Christmas Day to ensure others won’t be alone.
Last year saw the Sail Loft cafe at Amlwch Port, offer some of Anglesey’s most vulnerable residents the chance to join in a free Christmas lunch.
They will be repeating this show of yuletide spirit after over 20 people turned up last year, even throwing in free transport so that no-one has to miss out.
Alison Hughes, who runs the Sail Loft with Nicola Collins, said: “Last year, the community was so generous. Not only did we manage to provide dinner for those that attended, we also managed to deliver Christmas dinner to people that felt they couldn’t come, or were too poorly.
“We also had donations of presents and were able to give each attendee a gift, as well as deliver food hampers to those in need.”
According to Alison, there’s enough room for up to 60 on the day, but organisers are keen to know the numbers beforehand with booking strongly encouraged rather than turning up unannounced.
“We’re looking for anyone who can help in any way, who will also be welcome to join us for the Christmas lunch.
“Drivers are especially sought after as we expect people will need transport from other parts of the island.”
Cllr Aled Morris Jones, who has already volunteered his services on the day, said: “The idea is that people arrive at midday, here until around 3.
“Although Christmas is a joyous time, can also be a lonely time of year for some people. Its about making sure they have a good time, able to talk, and showing kindness for one another. Its the spirit of Christmas and its important that we show happiness together.”
Any items or food left over will be used for hampers for needy residents unable to attend on the day.
