Christmas concert broadcast features 10 divas vying for attentions of lone male Aled Hall

- Eryl Crump

FOLLOWING the success of the Ten Tenors concert last Christmas Venue Cymru Llandudno this year played host to a glamorous concert featuring Ten Divas.

In a TV spectacular for S4C ten of Wales’s foremost sopranos and mezzos teamed up with a full symphony Orchestra for a night of popular operatic favourites.

All ten Divas were vying for the attention of the host tenor – the mischievous Aled Hall when they performed Bernstein’s classic ‘I feel pretty’ while their competitive attitude was definitely on show for ‘Anything you can do I can do better’ and the notorious ‘Cat’s Duet’ by Rossini.

Show producer Hefin Owen from Caernarfon-based Rondo Media was looking forward to the night and said: “I’m looking forward greatly to a night of glitz, glamour and sumptuous singing - all 10 Divas can’t wait to top the power of last year’s 10 Tenors.”

The ten Divas are Elin Manahan Thomas, Shân Cothi, Leah-Marian Jones, Fflur Wyn, Gwawr Edwards, Catrin Aur, Elin Pritchard, Ellen Williams, Llio Evans and Eirlys Myfanwy Davies.

Llio Evans, originally from Anglesey, said: “It’s a very special occasion for me to come home to north Wales to perform and I feel very honoured to be considered one of the Ten Welsh Divas.”

And Elin Pritchard from Rhyl added: “I’m really looking forward to performing so close to home with such a fantastic mix of Wales’ best talent.”

The concert will be broadcast on S4C on January 8, 2017.
