Spar shop to double as post office

-

POST Office services will be restored to a town almost a year after its own branch shut.

Residents of Amlwch have been forced to travel at least three miles after the closure in February 2016, compounded by the closure of the town’s HSBC branch in October, with NatWest also set to follow suit in June this year.

But the Post Office has now officially announced that services will now be provided by the town’s Spar store, although no set date has yet been provided.

To bridge the gap, a temporary mobile post office will visit the town until this is in place.

A spokesperson for the Post Office added that residents will benefit from “significantly longer opening hours.”

Rhun ap Iorwerth AM said: “As we wait for the new post office branch to open in Amlwch, I had been asking Post Office for a temporary solution to bridge the gap. I’m therefore also pleased to hear that in the meantime, a mobile post service will be provided to the town.”

Locals presently face a five-mile trip to the nearest full-time post office in Cemaes Bay.

Albert Owen MP added: “The Post Office’s relocation to Spar has been talked about for some time, but I am glad that this has now been officially confirmed.

“I pay tribute to the efforts of all the Councillors who have campaigned to get the right result.”
