Science Park takes on graduate

-

THE Menai Science Park (M-SParc) currently under development at Gaerwen, has appointed a new business development officer thanks to European Regional Development Funding via the Welsh Government.

The project, set to open its doors in 2017-18 aims to provide high quality premises for companies and help to grow.

As well as spending time in discussion with companies who may locate at M-SParc, staff have committed themselves to providing community benefits during the construction phase, along with contractors Willmott Dixon.

But while developing the community benefits, M-SParc were approached by local graduate Sara Slaney.

Sara, from Llangristiolus is an architect graduate who wanted advice on her next career steps.

Following her enthusiasm for the project, and after attending several meetings with Willmott Dixon Contractors as an observer, Sara is now assisting on site as an Assistant Design Manager.

She said: “I worked at the Management Centre, where M-SParc’s offices are currently based, and took the opportunity to get in touch with the team.

“The project is very exciting, and being so close to home I felt I could really take an active role in the work.”

According to the firm, a business support officer vacancy will also soon be advertised.

Pryderi ap Rhisiart, the M-SParc project manager, added: “The community benefits are not just a token gesture. Its very important to us that the Science Park provides benefits for local people, and the wider community, in whatever way we can.

“As well as providing new office and lab space, we’re providing opportunities that haven’t previously been available.

“In doing so, we hope to prevent companies and young people from having to leave the area to seek the right premises and the right employment.”
