Hotspur aim to inflict 10th loss in row on Bucks

-

HOLYHEAD Hotspur will have high hopes of picking up three home points this Saturday when they entertain a Buckley Town side on a dire run of nine straight defeats (2pm), reports Gareth Davies.

Campbell Harrison’s side rose to 10th in the Huws Gray Alliance last weekend after a well-deserved 1-1 draw at Holywell Town.

The Wellmen were first to show, looking lively up front, before the own goal of the season arrived on eight minutes in Hotspur’s favour.

Holywell central defender Matty Harvey, 25 yards away from his goal and under no pressure, struck a back pass to his keeper John Rushton but overhit the ball, which although initially appeared to be covered by the custodian, veered away from him and landed in the net.

On 20 minutes visiting keeper Paul Pritchard did well to tip over from danger man Steve Thomas.

The home team were holding sway without the finish, Sam Jones clipping the near post.

Hotspur had not had a shot in anger of their own until Brendun Hogan fired wide on the half-hour. Mel McGinness then drilled narrowly off target for the travellers.

Just before the break Hotspur’s Alex Jones received a yellow card for what looked like a professional foul, when it could have been worse.

There was a nip-and-tuck start to the second half but on 71 minutes came the home team’s leveller.

A Matty Hurdman corner saw keeper Pritchard foul Wayne Edwards, who placed home the resulting spot-kick.

Back came the visitors, and substitute Robert Llewelyn Jones found McGinness, who shot inches wide of the post.

Hotspur were now enjoying more of the play, using full-back Kieran Hilditch for long throws into the danger area.

Both sides were going for it and Mike Kelly passed to Corey Jones, who fired wide, while Kelly flicked just over from one of Hilditch’s long throws on 88 minutes. In added time McGinness broke swiftly down the right past a defender and curled a fine effort inches wide.
