Shannon’s on target –

Town winger Shannon Thomas talks to Dave Jones

- PWD DO you have any football role

SHANNON THOMAS is playing a full part in Amlwch Town’s ever-improving progress in the North Wales Women’s League.

The 20-year-old is best known for her pace and adaptability to fill a variety of roles on the pitch.

WHEN did you start playing football and what attracted you to the game?

I only started to play two years ago. I have always enjoyed football as a fan but when Amlwch Town Ladies entered the league three years ago, I was really keen to be involved.

I’ve only ever played for Amlwch Town. I love the club and can’t imagine myself playing for anyone else.

WHAT is your favourite position?

I enjoy playing on the wing. The freedom to run and drive forward are the aspects of play I really like.

I am pretty quick and like to use that to best advantage. Despite that I have played leftand right-back a few times this season and have enjoyed the change.

WHAT are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

I am quick, resilient and determined. In two years I have never been injured, crossed.

My biggest weakness is my left foot. As I am relatively new fingers to the game, I haven’t had the time to develop that and my mind says “no” whenever I try to use it.

DESCRIBE the best goal you have ever scored.

My most memorable goal will always be my first.

However, the best goal I’ve scored so far was my goal against Gap Northop this season when I hit a shot from 20 yards and it flew into the top corner (but between you and me it was meant to be a cross). BEST game ever played in?

Last year’s Betty Pickering Cup final against Caernarfon Town Ladies. We lost 1-0 but it was one of the best team efforts I have ever been a part of.

HOW do you feel the current season is going for Amlwch Ladies?

We are a close-knit team in our third year of existence.

We improve every time we train and play and each of us enjoy every minute. That works for me.

The future looks very bright for Amlwch Town Ladies. models – male or female? Ryan Giggs. One club.

WHO are the toughest team you have faced in the league this season and why?

Caernarfon Town ladies are a very difficult team to beat. They are a fantastic team with great players with numerous skills.

Losing 8-0 to them at home at the start of the season was upsetting.

When we played them away a few weeks back we only lost 3-2, a game in which I scored and felt we should have won. We were unlucky but it just shows how far we’ve come. WHAT would you like to achieve as a footballer? I’d love to see Amlwch win the league. On a personal level I want to continue to improve – scoring a goal with my left foot wouldn’t be too bad either.
