Now for Spurs to build on win

- by Gareth Davies

HOLYHEAD Hotspur travel to Mold Alexandra this Saturday no doubt buoyed by last weekend’s 2-0 home win over Buckley Town which lifted the Harbourmen up to ninth in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Back in September, Campbell Harrison’s side caned Mold 8-1 at home with Mel McGinness celebrating a double hat-trick.

While the Alex have improved considerably since then, the Holy Islanders can visit Flintshire this weekend reasonably confident of getting some reward.

A goal in each half by McGinness and Brendun Hogan saw Hotspur back to winning ways last Saturday.

Buckley, with new boss Terry Ingram in charge in his first game, were spirited opponents and often belied their lowly position with Paul Pritchard, between the sticks for the hosts, having to be at his best on a few occasions.

After an even start, in the 11th minute Bucks’ Mike Cronshaw had a clear sight of goal, but Pritchard made a great block with his outstretched right foot.

The game was played at a good tempo with both teams attacking in turn and on 18 minutes away keeper Adam McGee had to produce a fine reaction save from Deion Evans.

In the 26th minute Hotspur took the lead.

Left-back Kieran Hilditch moved over to the right, hurling a long throw towards Mike Kelly, whose header was tipped on to the bar by McGee, but the ball came down to the alert McGinness who gleefully banged it home.

Both sides were battling and Hol- yhead’s Evans showed these qualities, winning two challenges and shooting from long distance just wide, while at the opposite end Jacob Evans’ strike was blocked.

The second half began with a good run down the left by McGinness, finished by a shot hitting the side-netting, while an Evans free kick drifted wide on 53.

After Buckley’s Evans had a shot saved by Pritchard, the hosts increased their lead on the hour.

McGinness’s ball into the box was well blocked by McGee, the rebound falling to Hogan who rifled into the top corner.

Hotspur’s Kenleigh Owen, back after his hamstring injury, made a good run on the left shooting across the goalmouth, while the Flintshire side rallied and Pritchard had to fling himself to his left to deny Evans on 82 minutes.
