Island throttles up for motor showcase

-

THIS weekend the Longton and District Motor Club visits Anglesey Circuit for the first of its two 2017 sprint meeting visits.

April 1 and 2 starts a very full season for sprint and hill climb championships, with competitors all anxious for a good start.

These first two rounds count towards six different series.

The club runs two championships for competitors to choose from.

Longton’s Northern Speed Championship consists of 23 rounds and points are calculated from the scores of competitors’ best 13 rounds. Longton’s Speed Series comprises only Longton and District MC organised events.

There are eight rounds, with scores from the best five being counted. A competitor can only enter one of the two championships, not both.

As well as the Longton club, several other invited clubs will be running the first rounds of their 2017 championships: the Auto 66 Northern Counties Speed Hill Climb and Sprint Championship, Nottingham Sports Car Club On Track NSCC Championship, Liverpool Motor Club Speed Championship and the Association of North Western Car Clubs Championships Sprint Championship.

The event will run on different circuit layouts over the two days. The National Circuit will operate on Saturday, while the International Circuit will be used on the Sunday, adding variety for both competitors and spectators.

The weekend should provide a quite hectic start to what promises to be a very competitive year.
