Wood: We will fight for Wales
LAUNCHING its election campaign, Plaid Cymru said the election result is a forgone conclusion so anti-Tory voters might as well take a chance on them.
Plaid leader Leanne Wood, speaking to activists in Bangor, said only her party would stand up for Wales.
She said: “Plaid Cymru’s job in this election is to defend Wales.
“Labour are weak and divided and unable to stop a massive Tory majority – it’s down to Plaid MPs to go to Westminster and fight for Wales. So I’m hoping people will vote for the strongest team to do just that.”
Arfon MP Hywel Williams said: “We are at the brink of the most important election since Margaret Thatcher swept away a weak and divided Labour.
“This time it’s Mrs May who has the same sort of aims, and Plaid Cymru will stand up for Wales at the brink of a very hard exit from Europe.
“This election is going to be won by the Tories as far as anybody can see. Labour are weak and divided and irresponsible, so in Wales it’s a case of who will provide the best opposition.
“We know that Plaid Cymru MPs are the hardest working in Westminster. It’s between us and the Tories.”
The party has three seats in Westminster and is hoping to pick up Anglesey, where they fell short by just 230 votes at the last General Election.
At the manifesto launch at the Eryl MÔr Hotel in Bangor which overlooks the island, Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville-Roberts said: “We have great expectations of being able to take Anglesey and to increase the number of our MPs.
“We are known as being the hardest-working MPs in Westminster.
“To have more members will enable us to work that much harder, and we will need that team of MPs to fight for Wales if we are going to have the Tories coming back with Theresa May as Prime Minister.
“We are the only party that has a track record of fighting for Wales and we know what the Tory legacy in Wales has been.
“It has been a legacy of cutting back on services, of destroying our industries, of blighting the future of our young people.”
She added: “We’re going to be there to make sure that our services and our communities are kept safe.”
