We’re all so lucky to have known him

- Jono Edwards, whose body was found on the banks of the Menai Strait

THE funeral of a father-of-one who was found dead on the banks of the Menai will be held this Friday.

Tributes have been paid to married man Johnathan Peter Edwards, who went missing from his Caernarfon home on March 19.

His body was found on the mainland side of the Menai, near Bangor, over a month later on April 25.

The 21-year-old was originally from Llangefni, Anglesey, and a crowdfunding page has so far raised more than £900 after being set up to help his family with the funeral costs – a prize bingo event will be held in his hometown on Saturday.

Carol Evans, a friend of the family, said: “The family are going through a terribly difficult time, as you may expect.

“As a community, the thought was that we would do what little we could to help them though this horrible time.”

Organisers of the monthly prize bingo at Llangefni’s Canolfan Ebenezer have decided to donate the proceeds of this Saturday’s event to his family – doors will open at 2pm. Carol added: “Anyone who can donate any items are more than welcome to do so, and we will also be gladly accepting donations which will, of course, go to his family.”

Chelsea Jones, a close friend of Mr Edwards, described him as “a lovely and popular man who knew who his closest friends were”.

“He was the kind of person who listened to anyone,” she added.

“Those who knew him were really lucky to have known him – he was always there for me and always supported me.

“The community has really pulled together to raise funds for his family to help get them through this hard time.

“All money raised will go towards Johnathan’s funeral and anything left over will be donated to Johnathan’s family and to the daughter he has sadly left behind. We’re hoping to raise as much as possible – we are all grateful for every donation that is made.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been notified.
