Fun and music for all the family with good view of castle

-

AFAMILY-FRIENDLY music festival, held on fields with great views of Rhuddlan Castle, returns for its third year on Saturday, May 27.

Rhuddfest, on Morfa Lodge Farm, with easy access off the A547, offers live music, a licensed bar, caterers, and plenty of children’s activities, with a free car park open from 10.30am. The festival runs from 11am until midnight.

This is a true grassroots music festival, full of homegrown talent and raising awareness and funds for Mind and Childline.

All proceeds from the giant pie face and welly throw (with prizes for adults and children) will be divided between the two chosen charities.

There should be something for everyone with the varied line-up of musical acts.

North Wales seven-piece funk and soul party outfit Yubaba is guaranteed to get you moving and grooving.

Birmingham-based three-piece Blue Nation grew up in the 1990s with alt.rock and Brit Pop, and create a riffbased rock which doesn’t fit neatly into any genre, and is all the more memorable for it. Their current influences are Rival Sons and Black Keys.

Straight Jacket Legends from Holyhead offer a fusion of catchy power punk songs, orchestral power and dangerously slick harmonies.

Hedge Gods was formed in 2012, and consists of three musicians with extensive experience and an ear for the unusual, who combine double bass, acoustic guitar and hand-drumming to weave sonic tapestries of questionable sanity and undeniable appeal,

The band describes itself as a warpdriven analogue dance band, but continues to defy categorisation.

For a change of pace, family trio Blue Genes, which consists of mum Kay, dad Stephen, and 13-year-old daughter Megan, play contemporary country, roots and Americana, with a variety of original material plus clas- sic and contemporary covers. Kay and Stephen have performed as the duo Calon since the mid 1990s, touching on all genres of music.

Other acts featured include female four-piece rock band War on Juliet and Rhyl-based Irish folk music band The Old Scrotes, as well as many others.

As well as the music, there will be plenty of crafts for the younger ones, face painting, and look out for the mascots.

Chainsaw sculptor Ian Murray will create works of art from natural resources, and you can try your hand at the coconut shy.
