Bridge off to a flyer in Premier

-

EARLY North Wales League Premier Division leaders Menai Bridge will look to make it four wins in as many starts this Saturday when they travel to Gresford.

Bridge remained at the summit after romping to a third victory in a row last weekend, Llanrwst being their latest victims.

The 2014 and 2015 champions won the toss and put the Rwsters into bat at Gwydir Park.

It proved a good decision, with the 10-man hosts limited to 104-9 in 41.3 overs, New Zealander Zach Ringrose leading the way taking 4-24 off nine overs, skipper Dion Holden 3-32.

Bridge then coasted to 107-1 in 25 overs, opener Jack Gower ending 57 not out.

The points went 14-1 to the Anglesey side.

After winning their first two outings, Bangor were brought back down to earth with a home loss at the hands of champions Llandudno.

Inserted by their hosts, Tudno set 189-9 off their 50 overs, Rhydian Morgan the leading batsman with 52.

Bangor’s attack spread the wickets around, Syed Kaleem Aslam (2-24), Andy Williams (2-31) and Francois Mostert (2-38) doing best.

Llandudno skipper and pace bowler Jack Rimmington then took centre stage as he destroyed the home batting with a spell of 6-40, Bangor finishing 163 all out.

Danial Evans picked up 3-3 for the visitors, Mostert posting 48 and opener Sion Evans 40 for the hosts, Tudno claiming a 12-3 verdict.

Bangor will face an equally tough test this Saturday when they host a Denbigh side flying after three wins in succession.

In the 1st XI First Division, Bethesda came up just short in their bold bid for victory at Gwersyllt Park last Saturday.

The home side elected to bat and piled up 234-6 off their 50 overs, Ian Pearson hitting 102.

Michael Jennings was Pesda’s best bowler with a more than respectable 2-32 off 12 overs.

The visitors went for it, but were bowled out for 228 - just seven short of what would have been a great win.

Jennings starred again with an unbeaten 71, Ioan Roberts adding 39 and captain Nicholas Parry 34.

Bodedern crashed by nine wickets at Buckley in the 1st XI Second Division.

Asked to bat first, Boded were all out for just 114, despite a determined 68 from Gareth Thomas.

Bucks coasted to 116-2 in just 21.5 overs for a 14-1 verdict.

In the 2nd XI Premier Division, Menai Bridge made it a good day for the club by sweeping aside Llanrwst in an eight-wicket breeze at Tyn-yCaeau.

Ashley Wood claimed 2-9 and James Jones 2-18 as the nine-man Rwsters were limited to 103-8 and the Anglesey side hit back with 106-2, Jones 53, Josh Massey 22 not out in a 14-1 outcome.

Chasing 214 for victory, Holyhead were all out for 149 in the 2nd XI West Division at Conwy, James Taylor 39 and captain Byron Jones 32 not out. Points: 13-2.

Matthew Williams struck 84 and Jamie Davies 43 no in Bangor’s total of 235-5 at Pwllheli, who were limited to 170-9, Brad Wilson 3-27. Points: 13-2 to Bangor 2nds.

Bethesda 2nds were dismissed for just 61 at home to St Asaph 2nds, who responded with a winning 63-2 for a 14-1 triumph.
