Wildlife art project
A PROJECT aimed towards connecting people with the birds and specialist habitats of Anglesey through art, has been awarded a £8,900 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The backdrop for the project is to be an exhibition of fine and applied art of the ‘Birds of Wales’ by awardwinning artists from across Wales at Oriel Ynys Môn, from 16 September to 5 November.
The Birds of Wales Project Group and wildlife and habitat experts will visit selected schools across Anglesey in June to promote contact with nature through a presentation about their local wildlife reserve; art and poetry competitions will stimulate the children’s creative involvement, and the children will be encouraged to collect a feather to be added to a sculpture of a “Big Bird”. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, a wide range of activities will be held in and around the gallery including illustrated talks and artist-led master classes in a wide range of mediums and techniques. Sessions for children and families will include guided walks, making bird feeders and other creative activities. Information can be found at www.birdsofwales.org.
Jayne Huskisson, Chair of the Birds of Wales Project Group, said “It’s fantastic that we have been awarded this grant and as a group will be able to raise the profile of the value of our wildlife and habitat heritage through art.
“If any community groups would like to find out more about guided tours around the exhibition or if anyone would like information about any of the activities, please contact us at info@ birdsofwales.org.”
