Decision makers now in place

ANGLESEY Council’s new executive was revealed during a meeting of the authority last week.

Following the recent local election, which saw the formation of a coalition of Plaid Cymru and Independen­ts to run the council, all the roles are shared between the members of the 21 strong group.

On Wednesday, new Council Leader Llinos Medi, revealed the makeup of the new Executive, made up of Plaid and Y Grwp Anibynnol councillor­s.

As a result, the Executive will be made up as follows: Cllr Llinos Medi: Council Leader & Social Services and Housing Cllr Ieuan Williams: Deputy Leader & Major Projects and Responsibi­lity for the Welsh Language Cllr Meirion Jones: Education, Youth, Libraries and Culture Cllr Bob Parry: Highways, Property and Waste Management Cllr Richard Dew: Planning, Public Protection and Economic Developmen­t Cllr John Griffith: Finance Cllr Dafydd Rhys Thomas: Corporate

Announcing the new appointmen­ts, Cllr Medi said: “A paper will be presented before the Executive on June 12 to change the constituti­on in order to give us more flexibilit­y.”

But opposition leader, Cllr Bryan Owen, said: “I understand you want an additional seat on the executive, but the previous council ran with seven members. Why do you want more?”

In response, Cllr Medi said: “The Housing and Social Services portfolio has been very challengin­g and difficult to realise the achievemen­ts.

“I plan to share it up to make it easier for me to achieve the aims.”

Meanwhile, the Chairs and ViceChairs for County Council Commit- tees were also announced during the same meeting.

Corporate Scrutiny Committee, Chaired by Cllr Aled Morris, with Cllr Dylan Rees as Vice-Chair.

Partnershi­p and Regenerati­on Scrutiny Committee, chaired by Cllr Gwilym O Jones with Bob Llewelyn Jones as Vice-Chair.

Audit Committee, chaired by Cllr Peter Rogers, with Bob Llewelyn Jones as Vice-Chair.

Planning and Orders Committee and the Licensing Committee chaired by Cllr Nicola Roberts, deputised by Cllr Richard Owain Jones

Democratic Services Committee, chaired by Cllr Bob Llewelyn Jones with Cllr Vaughan Hughes as ViceChair.
