Laughing all the way to the Bay

-

AFUN-PACKED week of hilarity lies ahead as the Edinburgh Fringe comes to Colwyn Bay. Stand-up At The Seaside presents Edinburgh Festival Previews, taking place at The Station, from June 19-23.

Award-winning comic Dave Rothnie, who has already set up monthly Stand-up At The Seaside comedy nights at the pub, has organised a fantastic treat for comedy fans with four nights of Edinburgh Festival sets from the country’s top comedians.

Kicking off the Edinburgh Fringe previews on Monday is a double-bill of the freshest comedy talent, with Anglesey-born Kiri Pritchard-McLean and acclaimed sketch group Gein’s Family Giftshop.

Performing her solo show, Kiri is a rising star on the comedy circuit and balances affection with an acute eye for the ridiculous.

Dave said: “This is a great chance to catch Kiri in a smaller venue while you can. She’s already a regular on Radio 4 and is destined for great things. And she’s from Anglesey!”

Kiri also directs Gein’s Family Gift Shop, a darkly-comic sketch group seen on Inside No.9 (BBC2) and heard on BBC Radio Wales.

Appearing on Tuesday, June 20, are Brennan Reece and Harriet Dyer.

Brennan was nominated at last year’s Edinburgh Festival for Best Newcomer with his debut Everglow.

On Tuesday, Brennan brings Everlong to the stage, whilst Harriet (Detective) Dyer performs her show Dyergnosis Murder.

On Wednesday, June 21, The Station plays host to BAFTA Wales Winner and the Welsh comedy legend Tudur Owen.

Stand-up At The Seaside is delighted to welcome one of their favourites, and Tudur will be previewing his brand-new Edinburgh show, Normal Wear & Tear.

Born in 1967, Tudur invites you to share in his celebrations (and tribulations) on turning 50.

Friday, June 23, see’s Tony Burgess taking to the stage.

Dave said: “Tony is one of the best stand-ups working the circuit, as well as a very talented actor and writer.

“He’s perhaps best known for playing DJ Troy in the BBC sitcom Ideal (starring Johnny Vegas), which he also co-wrote. But his roots are in stand-up.”

Dave added: “It’s a real treat that he’s bringing his debut Edinburgh show to Colwyn Bay.”

Tony previews his Edinburgh debut, Chrimbo, and talks about how, after another crazy family Christmas, he adopted his 10-yearold autistic nephew.

All of the shows start at 8pm, and tickets for each night cost £7.

Stand-up At The Seaside also have a special offer.

If you come along to all of the Edinburgh Fringe nights, you will get a free entry for the next monthly show, which will be taking place at The Station on Saturday, June 24, and starring Allyson June-Smith, George Rigden and Phil Chapman.
