City face a tough test in Nomads

-

BANGOR City’s perfect home record will be firmly put to the test this Friday when they take on a Connah’s Quay Nomads outfit vying for the leadership of the Welsh Premier League (7.45pm).

The Citizens made it three league wins out of three at the Bangor University Stadium last weekend with a 1-0 victory over bottom side Carmarthen Town.

Next up are Andy Morrison’s Nomads, who lie third in the table on the same number of points as fifth-placed City, but possess a better goal difference.

Last Saturday’s win over a defenceminded Carmarthen proved hard fought.

Former Citizens keeper Lee Idzi thwarted an early Dean Rittenberg effort and twice was made to work from Brayden Shaw headers.

Carmarthen posed the occasional threat from set pieces, but in general were more than happy to sit back and defend.

There was more frustration for the All Blues after the turnaround as the west Wales visitors became more physical in their approach.

Bangor kept searching for that opening until with 14 minutes left a foul on Gary Taylor-Fletcher led to a free kick which former Football League defender Laurence Wilson lashed home.

City were now determined to wrap up the points and Idzi had to go down low at his near post to foil Rittenberg.

It was all Bangor as Wilson fed Anderson Cayola, who cut inside but Idzi was equal to his attempt.

Near the final whistle, City’s George Harry found room to turn and shoot, but Idzi would not be beaten again.
