City hoping to increase Aber’s form concerns

-

BANGOR City will aim to capitalise on Aberystwyth Town’s poor start to the season when they visit Park Avenue in the JD Welsh Premier League this Saturday (5.15pm).

Aber are without a win and lie bottom of the WPL, while the Citizens are fifth after three wins in four starts.

Town are managed by former Bangor boss Neville Powell, who left the club in 2016 after nine years in charge which delivered a WPL title and three successive Welsh Cups.

City were left frustrated last Friday after a floodlights failure caused their home clash with Connah’s Quay Nomads to be abandoned on 42 minutes with the home side leading 1-0.

It has been a game of few chances with Danny Gosset going closest for the hosts before, in the 27th minute, Laurence Wilson’s deflected long-range effort found the net.

Three minutes before the break three of the floodlights at the Menai end of Nantporth went out and play had to be stopped.

The players returned to the dressing rooms as work went on behind-the-scenes to restore the lights. After a lengthy delay and despite the efforts of groundstaff, referee Huw Jones was left with no option but to abandon the match, which will be replayed on a date to be agreed.

Sam Jones netted a hat-trick of penalties as Bangor City Under-19s celebrated a 4-0 victory over Cefn Druids in the Welsh Premier Development League (North) last Sunday.

Jones struck from the spot after 25, 50 and 69 minutes and Jason Banks rounded off the scoring with a fourth goal in the final minute of the match.
