Bangor Ladies put in a battling show before falling to Premier rivals

-

BANGOR City Ladies may be out of this season’s FAW Women’s Welsh Cup but they certainly went down with a fight.

The Citizens held a shock 1-0 half-time lead at Welsh Premier side Llandudno only to end up losing 4-2 after putting up a truly great battle.

The tie was switched to the 3G pitch at Llandudno’s Giant Hospitality Stadium and North Wales League hopefuls Bangor started as real underdogs.

But it was City who started the brighter, taking an early lead with a fine goal from former Wrexham player Lexi Crawley.

The visitors made it hard for Tudno to settle and although the WWPL outfit created a few opportunities, Katie Bowe going closest when she hit the bar from a free kick, Bangor reached the interval a goal up.

Llandudno came out for the second half pressing for the equaliser and they were level on 47 minutes through a lovely strike from Stacey Tradewell.

Tradewell then turned provider by playing a through pass to Jordanne Greenough, who poked the ball between the keeper’s legs for 2-1.

Llandudno looked to be in control of the game before an own goal from Becky JarvisEvans made it 2-2 in the 54th minute.

Star player this season for Tudno, Louisha Doran, came on for the second half and it was she who ultimately made all the difference.

In the 57th minute a through ball put the former Everton player one-on-one with the keeper and she placed it into the bottom corner.

The game was not settled until three minutes from time when Shona Roberts fed the ball down the line to Doran, who lashed home a near post strike to clinch Llandudno a quarter-final spot.
