I want sex robot that talks Welsh

-

A SEX robot developer wants to create a Welsh speaking version to meet local demand.

Arran Lee Squire spent nearly four years working with creator Dr Sergi Santos on “Samantha”, which uses AI to interact with users.

The robot has been adapted to speak English, Spanish and German, and Mr Squire says the software is there to give the doll up to 1,000 Welsh language words.

Mr Squire said: “We are always making changes and adapting the doll to improve her, and creating dolls that speak different languages is part of that.

“Based in Wales, we have had enquiries from people who have asked about Welsh-speaking dolls and it is something we are now looking at.”

The 36-year-old from Holyhead added: “It can be done, it just takes work to program in the words and phrases and it is something we will look to do. We have not yet had a firm order for a Welsh language doll, but with the enquiries we have had we expect to soon have some.”

The robot, which reacts to the touch and voice of users, went to market last summer and gained huge media attention, helping to drive sales. They have had to step up production of the robots, which retail for around £3,500.

But they have so far failed in their bid to find a local firm to manufacture the heads of the dolls, with production being carried out in China.

Mr Squire added: “We are ahead of the game with these dolls and still getting lots of enquiries from media all over the UK.

“We continue to develop the robot, making changes to improve her like bringing in more movement for the hands and mouth. The doll is developing all the time.”
