Family come to rescue of flood-ravaged cafe

-

A CAFE devastated by flooding two months ago has reopened thanks to support from family and an emergency overdraft.

Llangefni was engulfed when up to 5ft of storm water swept through the town as the River Cefni burst its banks on November 22. One of the businesses hit was the popular Mona House Cafe on Bulkley Square.

Flooding caused serious damage to the cafe, forcing them to shut for eight weeks.

Owners Marie and Jenny Bain have only survived thanks to financial help from family and a bank overdraft.

Marie, 43, who has run the cafe for two years, said: “It’s been a nightmare.

“Since the flooding, the cafe has had to close for eight weeks, but the bills don’t stop and we have to keep paying wages to staff. “It has pushed us to the edge. “We have survived because of the support that we have received.

“We will get some back through insurance but it is slow happening.”

The cafe is now working to get customers back.

Marie said: “They have been very good but it is getting the message out there that we are back open.

“We have been closed for eight weeks so people have had to go to other places. We are working hard to bring people back.”

The upside of what has happened is that the cafe has received a revamp.

Marie said: “That is the only good thing that has come from this.

“Also, customers who have come in have been very supportive.

“We just need to work hard now.”
