Magnificent 7 for Bangor

-

BANGOR City romped to a convincing 7-1 victory over Rhyl Development in the North Wales Women’s Football League last Sunday.

The Citizens made it three league games unbeaten and just one loss in seven.

A brilliant showing from the team saw them play excellent attacking football, controlling the match from the kick-off and firmly camping in opposition territory for large swathes of the game.

Taking the early initiative, Bangor soon grabbed the lead after an excellent run from Hannah McGoona saw her play the ball to the edge of the box where Cerys Gadd danced around her marker to fire home.

Ceri Lois soon doubled City’s tally, showing excellent strength to hold off her defender and find the net.

Top-scorer Ceri then made it a brace as she sprung the offside trap after a defence-splitting pass from Angharad Evans, and slotted home her 17th goal of the season.

McGoona made it four as she turned home a ball fired across the box to notch her third goal of the campaign.

An excellent counter-attack from Rhyl before half time saw them get a goal back through Amy Webster to make it 4-1 at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein, the match played almost entirely in the Rhyl half with Bangor producing some excellent football, moving the ball around well and creating a myriad of chances.

Continuing to play with an excellent tempo in the second period, Bangor were scintillating going forward, always looking dangerous from open play and set pieces.

It was from the latter that the next goal came as an excellent delivery from a corner by Ceri Lois was met by Tash Matthews, who headed high into the net.

Evans was next on the scoresheet. After a stinging shot by Gadd from outside the box could only be parried by the goalkeeper, Evans pounced first, lashing into the roof of the net.

It was another set piece which rounded off the scoring as a free kick was won five yards outside the Rhyl box. Matthews placed an excellent shot into the far top corner to complete a personal double.

Player of the Match was Gadd, brilliant throughout and always posing problems for the Rhyl defence, creating chances and getting on the scoresheet again.

Next up for Bangor is a home game versus Pwllheli this Sunday.
