Let’s give James Brewerton the testimonial he deserves

-

A MATCH-FREE weekend isn’t always the most interesting couple of days for a football fan but it gives one the chance to catch up with a book or BBC 4’s latest Saturday night European drama.

There are two snippets to mention about forthcoming matches. The next match is the away trip to Cardiff Met this Sunday (2.30pm). The following game, the champions at home, has been put back 24 hours from Good Friday to Easter Saturday (5:15pm, live on Sgorio).

On behalf of our fans we’d like to wish a speedy recovery to our academy goalkeeper Gruff Evans.

Gruff sustained a serious head injury in last Sunday’s academy’s match with Caernarfon. Get well soon Gruff.

There now follows a date for the diary. On Friday, May 3, Rhyl will be hosting a testimonial match for James Brewerton that will feature a team of Rhyl Legends and a team of Bangor Legends.

This occasion is a wonderful chance to pay tribute to a player that gave his all in blue.

As Johnno put it on Facebook a few weeks ago; “So this day has been a long time in coming but he deserves it. Lots of players from both sides getting involved.

“Would be great to see all rivalries being put aside and both sets of fans being there for a great lad and captain of both teams.”

We can all travel back to that sunlight evening in April 2011 and remember just what it felt like to see Brewie hold the league trophy aloft.

I can still remember that glorious feeling as if I were walking on air. What a fantastic team we had then!
