Three on bounce for Bethesda

-

IN-FORM Bethesda made it three straight wins and clinched their second away victory in seven days with a 12-3 success at Dolgellau last Saturday.

The result enabled Pesda to move clear of the relegation troubles in Division One North, and in doing so send Dolgellau to the bottom two.

With the benefit of a stiff biting easterly wind, bringing with it the occasional flurry of snowflakes, it was Bethesda who dominated early on.

They took the lead after 10 minutes as full-back Gethin Long elected to find touch rather than chance a pot at goal.

They were rewarded from the resulting lineout as their forwards drove on, with prop Paul Thomas touching down.

Dolgellau gamely tried to run from deep, but after 25 minutes, they were turned over. Bethesda’s counterattack was clinical and centre Huw Williams put in Long for the try. Long added the conversion. Bethesda’s defence withstood all Dolgellau could throw at them, but in the final minute of the half, referee Robert Jones lost patience with skipper Danial Jones and issued a yellow card for continued infringement at the off-side line.

Dolgellau started the second half strongly. Replacement Bryn Jones, prop Greg Smithies and No8 Dylan Llewelyn almost carved a scoring opportunity, but it was the closest the hosts came to scoring, such was the visitors’ composure in defence.

For all their effort Dolgellau could only succeed with a solitary penalty by stand-off Gerwyn Thomas to complete the scoring.

The introduction of all five substitutes saw Pesda finishing strongly and ensuring a vital four points.

Bethesda now have four matches in which to better their league position in a season of gradual improvement following a very disappointing start.

This result will hopefully further encourage them as they prepare for a difficult home game against powerful Llandudno this Saturday (2.30pm).
