Valley clinch second with eight-goal thumping of Bodorgan

-

VALLEY coasted to an 8-0 victory over an under-strength Bodorgan in the Anglesey League Car Boot Trophy Group B last Saturday.

The result clinched second place in the standings for Barry Rowlands’ side.

Visitors Bodorgan were struggling to raise a team and started the game with only nine players.

Knowing they had to stay disciplined and not overcommit themselves, Valley played some good passing football and on six minutes were in the lead when top scorer Justin Williams found the net from just outside the box for his 30th goal of the season.

The home total was doubled through a neat finish by Barry Haigh just past the 10-minute mark.

Nik Kontodious made it 3-0 after a miss-placed kick from the goalkeeper found the Valley midfielder, who after a good touch set himself up to chip the keeper from distance.

Almost straight from the restart Bodorgan played the ball back to the keeper who attempted to pass to his defender, but Wilson pounced to put away his second and Valley’s fifth of the half.

The second half was not the procession for the home side many might have expected. Despite many attacks on the away team goal, it took until the 70th minute for Valley to make it six, Haigh’s strike deflected in by Barry Roberts.

Justin Williams got his second from the penalty spot and Haigh completed the scoring with a powerful finish in the closing minutes.

In Group A, Nathan Lewis plundered a hat-trick as Bryngwran Bulls whipped Arriva 6-1. James Ryan, Tony Meyers and Owain Roberts also netted for the hosts, Kieron Davies replying.

The only Anglesey League game saw Llangoed and District Reserves cane Llandegfan 6-0, Mitchell Jones (3), Wayne Thomas, Jay Finter and Robert Boyes splitting the riches.
