Weekend double bill brings its rewards for Bangor
BANGOR City were happy with their rewards from Saturday’s away double bill in the North Wales Coast Bowls League, losing narrowly 5-7 at Blaenau Ffestiniog and winning 8-4 at Denbigh A.
In the rearranged Blaenau visit, City’s five solo successes included Gary Buckland at 21-8.
At Denbigh later in the day, Bangor’s best were Ryan Short at 21-4, father John 21-8, also Dave Jones 21-8.
Beaumaris A suffered a 10-2 drubbing at Conwy, followed by a less damag- ing 8-4 defeat at Min-yDon. Llanfairpwll went down 10-2 at Colwyn Bay Legion.
Benllech 3 Llandudno A 9; Prestatyn Highbury 8 Bethesda 4 (Derek Roberts 21-1).
Beaumaris B 9 (Mike Ormond 21-8, Brian Begley 21-9) Vardre Deganwy A 3; Holyhead 10 (Dave Rossington 21-0, brother Dan 21-3, Steve Hanney 21-6, Clwyd Jones 21-8) Penrhyn NH A 2.
Beaumaris picked up their first points of the Welsh Counties’ Bowls League season by beating visitors Llanrwst 7-3.
Llanfairpwll suffered their second defeat, and at home this time, against Min-y-Don 8-2.
Champions Llangefni were maximum 10-0 winners over Benllech on their own green in the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division.
The Taylor brothers, Chris and Richard, celebrated a 21-6 return in the pairs, with Pat Smithson at 21-7 in the singles.
Other results: Bangor City 9 (Phil Short and Stuart Thomas 21-7 pairs), Criccieth 1; Beaumaris 10 (Dave Jones 21-4) Academi Llanfair 0; Llanfairpwll 7 (Dave Chadwick 21-2) Holyhead 3; Menai Bridge 6 (Dave Lydford 21-6) Caernarfon 4.
Reigning champions Beaumaris A made it back-to-back wins to start the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Wednesday Division campaign by routing Bethesda 10-0 on their own Rachub green, Dave Jones 21-2, Barry Harris 21-7 and captain Hefin Jones 21-9.
Llanfairpwll triumphed at Beaumaris B 8-2, Buckland brothers Gary and Gwerydd both winning 21-7, while Benllech edged a 6-4 result over Criccieth.
After Bethesda A’s resignation from the Gwynedd Seniors’ League, the club’s other team will continue in Division B and will be known as just Bethesda, and not Bethesda B as previously.
As a consequence of Bethesda A’s withdrawal, Beaumaris B’s relegation from Division A at the end of last season has been cancelled and the Castle side are reinstated in the top flight.
Mon-Menai beat Southport 23-9 to get their latest campaign in the Federation of Bowls Associations’ Championship off to a promising start.
In the home half, MonMenai dominated by 233168 points and 9-3 in games, Alan Parry 21-3, Euron Jones 21-5 and Stuart Thomas 21-6. Away, the locals edged ahead by 212-207 - and that provided all-in totals of 445375 and 15-9 in games.
