CONFIDENCE BOOST FROM FFIT CYMRU
FFIT Cymru is a new show on S4C which follows a group of people from North Wales as they attempt to transform their lives and lead a healthier lifestyle. One of those is 33-year-old electrician Mathew Thomas from Gaerwen. In this exclusive column for the Mail, Mathew (inset) explains what his fitness journey has been like so far... “As the weeks go on I think it has been getting easier and easier for me. The diet is getting easier to adapt to, and the exercise has been brilliant. This week I was really pleased to get back out on the rugby field for the first time in around two years.
“It was my first training session back and I managed to keep up with the boys which I was so proud of, and it was so rewarding. My teammates and coaches were all really supportive and the experience was brilliant.
“Being a part of this show has given me such a confidence boost, and I have been overwhelmed with the support I’ve received.
“After all my hard work I was a bit disappointed to only lose 4lbs when I weighed in. However, after speaking to our experts they explained that losing 11lbs every week isn’t realistic, and overall I was proud that I hit my target weight loss.
“To lose 15lbs in just three weeks is a brilliant achievement!
“But I have to admit resisting the sweets and chocolates wasn’t easy at first. As time has gone on we still have sweets in our cupboard, but some have been there for weeks and I haven’t touched them, I’m so shocked I’ve resisted temptation! “I’ve realised I was eating my wife and my kids out of food! I was definitely over-eating, which wasn’t healthy. The weight gain was also affecting my moods and my overall happiness too. I was getting tired, irritable, and moody, which wasn’t great for my wife and children. Now I’ve lost 15lbs it feels like a different world.
“My new motto is, eat fresh, feel fresh.”
